Spider Vein Treatment

Schedule Your Consultation

Spider veins are more common than most people realize, and if you have been noticing small clusters of red, blue, or purple facial or leg veins, you are not alone. While they are usually harmless, developing spider veins can affect how you feel about your appearance and your confidence in everyday life.

At Miller Vein, we believe you should not have to just live with them. Our VeinErase® by Miller Vein method offers simple, comfortable, and effective spider vein treatment at clinics across Michigan, including Auburn Hills, Dearborn, Grand Rapids, Holland, Macomb, Novi, St. Clair Shores, and Troy.

Before choosing a treatment, it helps to learn more about spider veins and how it progresses.

What Are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are visible tiny blood vessels (different from varicose veins) that sit just beneath the skin’s surface. They typically form web-like or branching patterns and measure 1mm or less in diameter, but larger spider veins are possible, too. They can appear in shades of red, blue, or purple and show up most often on the legs, though they are also common on the face.

These veins develop when small blood vessels weaken or dilate due to increased pressure. Several factors can contribute to their formation, including genetics, hormonal changes, prolonged standing or sitting, sun exposure, and age. Pregnancy is another common trigger, as rising blood volume and hormonal shifts put extra pressure on the veins throughout the body.

Spider veins are generally harmless, but they can cause physical discomfort for some people and may sometimes point to a deeper vein condition that deserves attention.

Spider Vein Symptoms

For many people, spider veins are purely a cosmetic concern with no physical symptoms at all. For others, they can cause:

Some patients are better suited to sclerotherapy treatment — your evaluation will tell us which.

  • Itching or a burning sensation around the affected veins
  • Mild swelling in the legs or ankles
  • Aching or a sense of heaviness after prolonged standing or sitting

It is also worth knowing that spider veins can sometimes be an outward sign of an underlying condition, such as venous reflux disease (VRD) or chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). These conditions occur when the valves inside the veins stop functioning properly, causing blood to pool instead of flowing efficiently back toward the heart.

Before your visit, take a look at financing through CareCredit to see how coverage works.

If you are experiencing leg pain, throbbing, heaviness, skin changes, or wounds that are slow to heal alongside your spider veins, a thorough vein evaluation is especially important. At Miller Vein, we screen for underlying vein conditions (including blood clots) at every visit to make sure your care plan addresses both the visible veins and any root causes.

VeinErase®: Michigan’s Signature Spider Vein Treatment

VeinErase® is Miller Vein’s proprietary approach to spider vein treatment, built around three core priorities: effectiveness, comfort, and personalized care.

Every VeinErase® experience begins with a one-on-one evaluation with one of our specialists. During this visit, we assess the size, distribution, and nature of your spider veins, screen for any underlying vein conditions, and develop an individualized treatment plan. You will receive a realistic estimate of how many sessions you may need and a clear picture of what to expect throughout the process.

What Makes the VeinErase® Method Different?

At Miller Vein, we treat both legs in a single appointment using the maximum safe dose of FDA-approved medication. That approach means fewer visits and more efficient progress toward your goals.

We also incorporate cool air and gentle vibrations during treatment to help keep you comfortable throughout the procedure. Most appointments take less than 45 minutes, and there is no required downtime, so you can walk out and carry on with your day.

We take before-and-after photos at every session so you can see your progress clearly over time. And if your spider veins are connected to an underlying vein condition, our team will refer you to one of our board-certified vein physicians to ensure the root cause is addressed, not just the surface-level symptoms.

How Much Improvement Can You Expect?

We aim for 70 to 80% clearance or lightening of treated spider veins. It is important to set honest expectations here: no spider vein treatment, anywhere, eliminates veins completely. If another provider promises 100% clearance, we recommend seeking a second opinion before moving forward.

Most patients also see their best results after a series of treatments rather than a single session. Because everyone’s veins are different, the right number of visits varies from person to person, which is why we offer our VeinErase® Package to help you get the most value from your treatment.

No Tricks. No Photoshop. Real Results.

Our Spider Vein
Treatment Options

At Miller Vein, we have clinically proven methods for treating spider veins. Your specialist will recommend the most appropriate approach based on the type, size, and location of your veins.

Sclerotherapy Treatment

Sclerotherapy is the most widely used and well-established treatment for spider veins. It is the foundation of our VeinErase® method. During sclerotherapy, a specialist gently injects Asclera (polidocanol), an FDA-approved medication, directly into the targeted veins. The medication causes the vein walls to close and seal shut, and over the following weeks, the treated veins gradually fade from view.

Patients consistently appreciate several things about sclerotherapy:

  • No downtime: you can return to normal activities immediately after treatment
  • Efficient appointments: most sessions are completed in under 30 minutes
  • Precise and effective: medication is delivered directly to the problem area
  • Comfortable: most patients find sclerotherapy significantly more tolerable than laser treatments

VeinGogh For Facial Spider Veins

VeinGogh is a specialized treatment for facial spider veins that uses microburst technology to target and eliminate small, superficial veins on the face. This treatment is particularly effective for veins around the nose, cheeks, and chin.

The procedure is quick, minimally invasive, and requires no downtime, making it an excellent option for patients looking to address facial spider veins with minimal disruption to their daily routine.

We want you to feel confident and informed before you ever walk through our door. Here is what a typical VeinErase® experience looks like from your first call to your final follow-up.

We will assess your spider veins, discuss your concerns and goals, screen for underlying vein conditions, and outline a personalized treatment plan, including an honest estimate of how many sessions may be needed to get the results you are looking for.
  • Step 2: Minimally-Invasive Treatment
Your first appointment is a focused, one-on-one consultation with a VeinErase® specialist. We will assess your spider veins, discuss your concerns and goals, screen for underlying vein conditions, and outline a personalized treatment plan, including an honest estimate of how many sessions may be needed to get the results you are looking for.
  • Step 3: Results and Follow-Up
Your first appointment is a focused, one-on-one consultation with a VeinErase® specialist. We will assess your spider veins, discuss your concerns and goals, screen for underlying vein conditions, and outline a personalized treatment plan, including an honest estimate of how many sessions may be needed to get the results you are looking for.

Frequently Asked Questions About Spider Vein Treatment

How many VeinErase® treatments will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on the extent of your spider veins and how your body responds to treatment. Most patients achieve their best results after multiple visits. Your specialist will give you a personalized estimate during your initial evaluation.

Does sclerotherapy hurt?

Most patients are surprised by how comfortable the treatment is, while others experience mild, temporary discomfort during certain parts of the procedure. The needles used are very fine, and our team works carefully to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure.

Can spider veins come back after treatment?

Treated veins typically do not return, though new spider veins can develop over time, especially in people with genetic or hormonal risk factors. Staying active, maintaining a healthy weight, and using compression during prolonged sitting or standing may help support healthy circulation and reduce the risk of developing additional veins.

Are spider veins a sign of a more serious condition?

Spider veins are often a cosmetic concern, but in some cases, they may be a sign of underlying vein condition like venous reflux disease or chronic venous insufficiency. This is especially true when they appear as a dense cluster around the ankle or foot, or when they are accompanied by symptoms such as leg heaviness, aching, swelling, throbbing, itching, or fatigue. Our team will screen you for underlying conditions at every visit, rather than simply treating what is visible on the surface.

Is VeinGogh treatment painful?

VeinGogh involves minimal discomfort. The probe is extremely fine, and the microburst technology works in precise, controlled pulses. The vast majority of patients tolerate it well.
